Historic Robotic Prostate Surgery in Nigeria

In April 2025, Nigeria achieved a historic milestone by performing its first robotic-assisted prostate cancer surgery at The Prostate Clinic in Lagos. Led by Prof. Kingsley Ekwueme, this achievement marks a turning point in local access to advanced surgical care. Until now, many patients had to travel abroad for robotic procedures, which are less invasive, offer quicker recovery times, and often have better outcomes. This development is seen as a significant step toward modernizing prostate cancer treatment infrastructure in West Africa.
